Students cut class in Hong Kong to protest against government

Monday marks the first day of school for most secondary students in Hong Kong. But many are boycotting class to help maintain momentum for the pro-democracy movement that has been rocking the city for the past few months.

Date set for 9/11 plotters trial

A date has been set for the trial of five people suspected of plotting
terrorist attack on September 11th, 2001.

The men were captured in Pakistan and eventually delivered to
Guantanamo Bay in 2006.

This marks the first time a trial date has been set for those accused
of masterminding an attack that killed nearly 3,000 people.

Hundreds join Greta Thunberg in climate protest outside UNHQ

Two days after arriving in New York via a zero-emissions yacht that crossed the Atlantic, teen climate activist Greta Thunberg carried out her first demonstration in the United States.


Hundreds of protesters joined her outside the United Nations, in her calls for climate justice.

Hurricane Dorian strengthens as it approaches Florida

Hurricane Dorian has strengthened with winds of up to 175 km/ph as it approached Florida's east coast.

The entire state of Florida is under a declaration of emergency. It's unclear exactly where the storm will make landfall - which is expected sometime on Monday.

Indian government counters rumours of arrests and deportations in Assam

On Saturday, the Indian state of Assam will publish a list of 'genuine' citizens and identity illegal immigrants.

Ahead of that the Indian government has stepped up security and is holding an information drive to tell people that they will not become stateless if they fail to qualify. 

In the last four years, Assam's 32 million residents here have been asked to prove that they or their ancestors lived in India prior to 1971- that's when the Bangladesh liberation war began and Assam saw a massive influx of people across the state's porous border.

UK & EU "STEP UP TEMPO" ON BREXIT TALKS

Prime Minister Boris Johnson says he wants the UK and the EU to "step up the tempo" on Brexit negotiations.

France to run Brexit rehearsals

France is going to rehearse its preparedness for Brexit over the course of a month.

Customs Minister Gerald Darmanin says some large companies will trial measures to get ready for Brexit on the 31st of October. 

It comes as he is due to meet Michael Gove, the British minister in charge of no-deal Brexit planning.

UK TO 'INTENSIFY' BREXIT NEGOTIATIONS

The UK says it is stepping up efforts to reach a Brexit deal with the European Union.

British and EU negotiators will meet twice a week from next month, ahead of a summit in Brussels on 17th October.

Uganda Confirms an Ebola Case from DR Congo

Uganda confirms another case of ebola in its western district of Kasese.


The confirmed case is a nine year old child who traveled with her mom from the DRC. They entered Uganda through the Mpondwe border point in Kasese.

Hong Kong activists Joshua Wong, Agnes Chow arrested ahead of weekend rallies
