UK Prime Minister to discuss Brexit with French President

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is due to hold talks with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.

The main topic of discussion will be Brexit and whether the deal agreed under predecessor Theresa May can be renegotiated. 

It comes after Mr Johnson visited Berlin on Wednesday for similar talks.

Merkel: Irish backstop could be resolved 'in thirty days'

Ahead of her meeting with British prime minister Boris Johnson, German chancellor Angela Merkel suggested that a solution to the Irish backstop issue that has hampered Brexit talks was possible 'within thirty days'.


However, it would be up to the UK to propose a realistic alternative to making contingency plans for the Irish border in the event of a no deal Brexit.

Boris Johnson believes eleventh hour Brexit deal possible

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, has met with his German counterpart Angela Merkel in Berlin, trying to persuade the Chancellor that the EU should do a last minute deal on Brexit.


Mr Johnson wants the EU to remove the controversial Irish backstop from the Brexit deal secured by his predecessor Theresa May.


But the EU has said unless a workable alternative solution is found, the backstop stays.


However the UK Prime Minister said he believes a deal can be reached, but that probably won't happen until the very last minute.

Rwanda, Uganda Peace Pact

Uganda and Rwanda have signed a peace pact to resolve the long-standing diplomatic row between the two countries.

Angola's President João Lourenço and DR Congo's Felix Tshisekedi mediated the meeting held in the country's capital – Luanda.

 

Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni and Rwanda's Paul Kagame, once close allies, have exchanged public accusations of spying on each other's territory and political interference.

Trump Cancels Denmark Visit after Greenland offer rejected

President Donald Trump has cancelled his trip to Denmark after the country's Prime Minister rejected his offer to buy the autonomous island of Greenland from them.

China threatens sanctions on US firms that sell arms to Taiwan

China has threatened to impose sanctions on US firms involved with the sale of military planes to Taiwan, if the US government goes ahead with the deal.

Russia and China call for UN meeting after US missile test

The UN Security Council will hold an emergency session on Thursday after Russia and China called for one to discuss the United States' weapons projects.

Trump postpones visit to Denmark in Greenland flap

AUSTRALIA: Cardinal Pell sentence appeal dismissed

Cardinal George Pell's appeal against his prison sentence has been dismissed by Victoria's Court of Appeal in Melbourne and he will remain in prison.
Pell was convicted in December of five charges over the rape of one 13-year-old choirboy and sexual assault of another at St Patrick's Cathedral in Melbourne in 1996.
The bench of three judges have handed down their decision.

Epstein signed new will two days before death

days before he was found dead in his New York jail cell.

The court papers list no beneficiaries but value his estate at over
$577 million.

Russia, China slam US missile test

Russia and China are warning of a new arms race after the United States test-fired a cruise missile this weekend.

Peregrine lander bids to be first American spacecraft on moon since 1972
