RUSSIAN OPPOSITION LEADER RETURNS TO JAIL

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been discharged from hospital and taken back to jail after suffering from an apparent allergic reaction.

His doctor argued against the move saying he should remain in for treatment.

Ethiopia plants millions of trees in day

NEW UK PM MAKES PLEDGE TO "STRENGTHEN UNION" IN SCOTLAND

Paris NGO files lawsuit over Notre Dame lead pollution

A French NGO has filed a lawsuit over lead pollution from the Notre Dame cathedral fire, claiming local authorities put residents in danger by failing to warn them about the risks. 

Work on the reconstruction has been suspended for at least a week because the risk to workers from the lead is considered too high.

3 DEAD IN CALIFORNIA SHOOTING

Three people have been killed by a gunman at a food festival in the US state of California.

Police shot the suspect dead but have been investigating reports of a second suspect.

It happened at the Gilroy Garlic Festival and is the 246th mass shooting in the US this year.

15 people were injured in the incident.

These people were at the event when the shooting started.

RAAB: 'NO DEAL BREXIT IF EU WON'T RE-NEGOTIATE'

India's tiger population up by 30%

India's government has confirmed that the country's tiger population has increased by 30% in the last four years.

President Trump threatens tariffs on French wine over digital services taxes


U.S. President Donald Trump hinted he could slap tariffs on French wine imports, in response to France's plan to boost taxes on multinational firms like Google.

The 3% tax will affect companies that pull in $28 million or more from digital services in France.

UN calls on EU to resume Mediterranean Sea rescues

The United Nations Refugee Agency has called on the European Union to resume naval rescues over the Mediterranean sea, after some 150 refugees reportedly drowned off the coast of Libya on Thursday.


The EU ended the rescue operations in March, but refugees from the Middle East and Africa have continued to flee by boat from war-torn Libya, a key departure point for Europe.
