Politicians in S. Korea unite behind Hanoi summit

The South Korean government has plenty at stake as leader Kim Jong-un and President Donald Trump prepare to meet in Hanoi.


As reporter Bruce Harrison tells us, the government in Seoul is united behind the talks that may determine the future of the Korean Peninsula.

In recent days, rival parties have come together to support the dialogue between Kim and Trump.


Party leaders held hands for a friendly photo-op in Seoul and said they'll even take nonpartisan action in parliament if needed.


They hope the meeting in in Hanoi leads to a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula.


It's a rare show of unity in a country with a bold line dividing the left and right on North Korea and domestic issues.


President Moon is all-in supporting Trump's approach with Kim. And most lawmakers here seem to be behind him… for now.

Buhari wins second term as Nigeria's president

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has been re-elected for a second four-year term.

The election commission says the 76-year-old defeated his main rival, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, with a margin of nearly four million votes.

Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump to meet in Hanoi

US President Donald Trump and North Korea's Kim Jong Un will meet in Vietnam's capital of Hanoi. 

This is the second meeting between the two leaders in less than a year and expectations are that there will be some headway in the talks on the denuclearisation of North Korea.

Israeli PM Netanyahu in Moscow for Syria meeting

US House votes to block Trump's emergency declaration over border wall

The US House of Representatives has taken the first step to block President Trump's national emergency declaration over building a US-Mexico border wall.
The resolution passed the Democrat-led House by a margin of 245-182.
Mr Trump, who declared the emergency after Congress refused funding for the wall, has said he will veto the bill.

Trump touches down in Hanoi for second summit with Kim Jong Un

US President Donald Trump has arrived in Vietnam ahead of his second summit with North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un.

The summit, which is due to take place on Wednesday and Thursday, follows a historic first round of talks in Singapore last year.

U.S. lawmakers set to challenge President’s Environmental Protection Agency

The top official at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is set to
face tough questions from lawmakers on Tuesday in the wake of their
annual report.

The EPA's report shows that the agency conducted the fewest amount of
site inspections in a decade.

Elon Musk attacks US financial regulators on Twitter

UN launches record Yemen aid appeal

The United Nations has launched a record appeal to try and raise over
$4 billion dollars this year to help the people of Yemen.

May offers MPs Brexit delay vote

Britain's Prime Minister has given members of parliament the opportunity to put the brakes on Brexit. Theresa May said that while her "absolute focus" was approving a deal before the 29th March, she would delay leaving the European Union if there was no cross-party agreement on her proposals.

Mrs May said another referendum would take the country back to square one.

Ethiopians decry house demolitions

Over 12,000 houses are to be demolished in Ethiopia in an area neighbouring the capital city of Addis Ababa.

Already 930 houses have been razed to the ground by the city administration causing uproar among the residents who claim they legally own the land and weren't given enough notice.

Eurostar boss insists no-deal Brexit will not disrupt services

Theresa May facing revolt over Brexit

UK wants to 'stabilise' relations with Russia

The British Ambassador to Russia has said it is now his top priority to stabilize the relationship between the UK and Russia, almost a year after the attack on a former spy led to a diplomatic rift. India says it destroyed terror camp in airstrike in Pakistan

India claims to have carried out an air strike in Pakistan destroying a terror camp. 

Pakistan's armed forces says it scrambled fighter planes to intercept an attack. 

This follows a bombing in Indian administered Kashmir almost two weeks ago in which more than 40 Indian paramilitary police were killed.

As Kim Jong-un prepares to meet President Donald Trump in Hanoi, groups who don't trust Kim are condemning him on the streets of Seoul.

Prominent North Korean defectors and opposition lawmakers shredded posters featuring Kim Jong-un.

Just across the street from the U.S. Embassy, they condemned North Korea for human rights abuses.

They said if North Korea is unable to respect the rights of its own people, it won't respect the rights of others.

Kim and President Trump meet this week in Hanoi for their second summit.

The demonstrators here believe Kim will never give up his nuclear weapons.

… and Trump must maintain strong sanctions against North Korea's weapons program.

MAY EXPECTED TO AGREE BREXIT DELAY AS LABOUR AGREES TO REFERENDUM

UK Prime Minister Theresa May is expected to set out a possible delay to the Brexit process - if she can't get a deal agreed by mid-March.

It comes as she's threatened with a revolt by some ministers who say they'll resign if she doesn't take a 'no deal' Brexit off the table.

Mrs May is due to give a statement on Brexit negotiations to British lawmakers later (approx 1230GMT).

It comes as the opposition Labour Party says it will back a new EU referendum if its Brexit plans are rejected by MPs.

Shadow Foreign Secretary says she expects remaining in the EU would be on the ballot paper in any such referendum.
