US SUPPORTS MILITARY DRAW-DOWN AT KOREAN BORDER

The top US commander in South Korea says he supports plans to withdraw some outposts along the border with North Korea, despite the risks.

General Vincent Brooks has been responding to South Korean plans to reduce guard postings and equipment along the demilitarised zone at the border with the north.

It's part of efforts to reduce tensions with North Korea after a summit US President Donald Trump held with Kim Jong Un in Singapore in June.

This despite a United Nations watchdog warning Pyongyang may be continuing to develop its nuclear program.

Our correspondent Bruce Harrison in Seoul says General Brooks says he sees the benefits of a military draw-down at the border nonetheless.
