To help unite the bloc on immigration, the European Union is considering external asylum centers. 

The proposal comes as politics over immigration in Europe are as polarized as ever.

Rats destroy 1.2 million rupees at Indian ATM

Authorities in the Indian state of Assam have said that rodents were responsible for destroying notes worth 1.2 million rupees or about 17,600 USD.

US quits UN Human Rights body

The Trump administration has withdrawn from the United Nationa Human Rights Council - accusing the body of entrenched bias against Israel and allowing human rights abusers as members.

US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley has long criticised the 47-nation body and said last year the US was reviewing its membership.

UN Refugee Agency says global displacement spiked in 2017

By the end of 2017, wars, violence and persecution had driven more 68 and a half million people to flee their homes, according to new data from the UN refugee agency.


Among them were more than 25 million refugees who fled their countries, up nearly 3 million from the previous year. 


The surge was fueled by the Rohingya exodus, as well as protracted conflicts in places like Syria and South Sudan.

Macron and Merkel meet for crunch talks on migration

French President Emmanuel Macron is in Berlin on Tuesday for a cabinet-level summit with Angela Merkel - which was supposed to focus on eurozone reform, but the agenda has been hijacked by a Europe-wide row over migration.

May faces defeat as Brexit legislation heads to House of Commons
