Russia expels 150 Western diplomats

The White House did not respond immediately to news of Russia's decision to expel 60 US diplomats on Thursday, in a tit-for-tat which has seen relations between the two countries paralyzed.

Russia says it will close the American consulate in St Petersburg in a move that mirrors Washington's decision to shut down the Russian consulate in Seattle, because of its proximity to a submarine base.

President Trump addressed supporters at a rally in Ohio as news of the expulsions broke, but focused instead on domestic issues- despite the deepening diplomatic crisis with Moscow.
