US "cautiously optimistic" over N Korea

The White House says it's cautiously optimistic following a meeting between the leaders of China and North Korea.

US officials say the talks in Beijing are a sign President Trump's policy of "maximum pressure" on Pyongyang is paying off.

Trump says he hopes to meet with Kim Jong Un next month.

But US correspondent Steve Mort says China is showing it won't be marginalized in diplomatic efforts on North Korea.

Stormy Daniels files motion for Trump to testify

The adult film star Stormy Daniels, who alleges that Donald Trump had an extramarital affair with her in 2006, has filed a court motion for Trump to testify.

Daniels says he signed a non-disclosure agreement and accepted "hush money" from Trump's personal attorney just weeks before the 2016 election.

Poisoned Spy's front door found to have high concentration of nerve agent


British police say the former Russian spy and his daughter who were poisoned by a nerve agent in Salisbury at the beginning of the month, first came into contact with the substance at their home.


Counter-terrorism police say the highest concentration of the nerve agent was found at the front door of Sergei Skripal's house.  He and his daughter Yulia were found unconscious on a bench in the city.    From London, Catherine Drew reports.

Trump says Kim is "looking forward" to their meeting - suggesting talks will go ahead

U.S. President Donald Trump says that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is looking forward to their talks - indicating the planned landmark summit between the two leaders will go forward.

Poland in $5bn US arms deal

Poland has signed the largest arms purchase deal in its history - areeing to buy the US Patriot missile defense system for $4.75bn.

France holds national mourning for hero policeman

A national mourning ceremony has been held in Paris for policeman Arnaud Beltrame, who swapped himself for a hostage during Friday's terror attack in Trebes in the south west of France. Beltrame has been widely acclaimed as a hero.

Cambridge Analytica whistleblower claims the firm worked for Indian political parties

Christopher Wylie, the man who exposed Facebook's data breach, has claimed that Cambridge Analytica worked for various Indian political parties from as early as 2003.

The former Cambridge Analytica employee had earlier claimed that India's main opposition party, the Congress had employed the services of the firm- a claim the Congress has denied.

Luxembourg Joins in on Condemning Russia

Funerals held for fire victims in Kemerovo

KIM JONG UN VISITS CHINA

Both China and North Korea have confirmed Kim Jong Un has made a secret, but widely speculated about, visit to Beijing for talks.

It's the North Korean leader's first known foreign trip since he came to power in 2011.

China says Mr Kim assured President Xi Jinping he's committed to giving up North Korea's nuclear weapons programme, on certain conditions.

North Korea's leader is due to hold talks with US President Trump in May.

UK CONSUMERS TO PAY CAN AND BOTTLE DEPOSIT

Consumers in the UK will have to pay a deposit when they buy drinks in cans and bottles, under new proposals designed to increase recycling rates.

Customers will be able to get the deposit back if they take the single-use glass and plastic containers back.
