KIM JONG UN VISITS CHINA

Both China and North Korea have confirmed Kim Jong Un has made a secret, but widely speculated about, visit to Beijing for talks.

It's the North Korean leader's first known foreign trip since he came to power in 2011.

China says Mr Kim assured President Xi Jinping he's committed to giving up North Korea's nuclear weapons programme, on certain conditions.

North Korea's leader is due to hold talks with US President Trump in May.

Confirmation of his trip to China came after days of speculation about a high-ranking North Korean visitor.

Former US ambassador to South Korea Christopher Hill says Beijing is invested in avoiding confrontation.
