Mateship, friendship underscored by Pres. Trump & PM Turnbull

Differences on policy and positions remained clear as U.S. President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Trump tried to emphasize their personal relationship and mateship.

The two men wanted to emphasize how they can work together, despite seeing guns, trade and other issues very differently.

US embassy in Israel moving to Jerusalem in May


The State Department in Washington is confirming that the US embassy in Israel will move to Jerusalem in May.

Last year US President Donald Trump triggered an angry reaction from Arab nations when he announced the relocation of the embassy from Tel Aviv, recognising Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

UN documents alleged crimes against humanity in South Sudan

A report released by the United Nations states that 40 officials in
South Sudan may be responsible for crimes against humanity.

UN human rights investigators say that in some cases, children were
made to watch their mothers being raped and killed.

Violence in the country erupted in 2013 and over four million people
are believed to have been displaced.

FL Governor proposes tougher gun restrictions

Florida's Governor is pushing for changes to the state's gun laws in the wake of last week's mass shooting at a high school in the state.

Republican Rick Scott's proposed overhaul includes new restrictions on gun sales which put him on a collision course with the National Rifle Association.

Former Trump Adviser Expected to Make Plea Deal

A former top adviser to Donald Trump's presidential campaign indicted by the special counsel is expected to plead guilty.

A plea deal for Rick Gates  would  indicate his cooperation with the investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 election.

US Announces New Sanctions on North Korea

Pres. Trump again advocates for guns at schools

U.S. President Donald Trump believes American public schools will be safer if there are more guns at schools.

The Broward County Sherriff's office has confirmed they received 18 warnings about Nikolas Cruz, the shooter.

The armed security guard at the high school failed to react when the shooting began and has now been dismissed from the Broward County police force.

En route to give a speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference, President Trump repeated his belief that more guns will make things safer.

‘No customs union’ with EU as UK ministers move towards Brexit strategy

Senior British ministers have reportedly reached a consensus on what type of deal the UK should seek from the European Union as it leaves the bloc. 

The apparent agreement came after marathon talks chaired by Prime Minister Theresa May at her country retreat. Mrs May is due to lay out details in public next week.

Russia wants change to UN Security Council resolution

Russia has questioned the wording of a UN Security Council resolution for a ceasefire in Syria. The draft is calling for a 30-day nationwide truce to come into effect 72 hours after the resolution is passed. But Russia says it doesn't go far enough. Jessica King reports from Moscow.

ARMED OFFICER AT PARKLAND SHOOTING FAILED TO INTERVENE

It's emerged that an armed officer assigned to the Florida school where a fatal shooting took place last week was outside the building as the incident unfolded.

Deputy Scot Peterson was on campus, in uniform, and armed, but did not intervene.

He was suspended after the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School which left 17 dead and has now resigned.

It comes after US President Donald Trump suggested arming some teachers could prevent further school shootings.

UK MINISTERS 'AGREE' BREXIT STRATEGY

UK Prime Minister Theresa May's senior ministers have reportedly moved towards consensus on the type of Brexit deal Britain should seek from the EU.

After marathon talks at the Prime Minister's country retreat, it's reported ministers broadly agreed the UK should seek sufficient 'divergence' from the EU's rules and regulations.

But the UK would promise to stick closely to EU standards to ensure frictionless trade.

It remains to be seen whether cabinet unity will hold or whether EU negotiators would agree to such an arrangement.

Australian PM to visit White House

Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull will meet with President Donald Trump at the White House later today (Friday).

They are expected to  discuss a wide range of issues including China's growing influence, trade and security matters.

His visit to the US is seen as significant - as both sides work to repair ties damaged by a row over asylum seekers which President Trump called a "dumb" deal.

Australian deputy Prime Minister and national party leader Barnaby Joyce will step down from the roles, as his party investigates an allegation of sexual harassment which he denies.
