EU to prepare sanctions against Myanmar generals

The European Union is expected to prepare sanctions against generals in Myanmar related to the killings of Rohingya muslims.

Around six hundred and fifty thousand Rohingya have fled into Bangladesh from Myanmar in what the UN describes as "ethnic cleansing".

Australian PM to visit White House

Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull will meet with President Donald Trump at the White House later today (Friday).

They are expected to  discuss a wide range of issues including China's growing influence, trade and security matters.

His visit to the US is seen as significant - as both sides work to repair ties damaged by a row over asylum seekers which President Trump called a "dumb" deal.

As our Washington Correspondent Harry Horton reports, Prime Minister Turnbull doesn't think the US will be open to rejoining the TPP trade agreement.

Australian Deputy Prime Minister steps down over scandal

Australian deputy Prime Minister and national party leader Barnaby Joyce will step down from the roles, as his party investigates an allegation of sexual harassment which he denies.
Mr Joyce was in Armidale, in the New South Wales New England region on Friday to advise that he will throw open the leadership at a meeting in Canberra at 8am on Monday.

New Charges Filed Against Trump's Former Campaign Aides

UN fail to reach agreement on UN resolution on Syria

The United Nations Security Council is meeting to discuss the
escalating violence in Syria's Eastern Ghouta.

Several hundred civilians are believed to have died there since Sunday
and the UN is facing pressure to act.

Kuwait and Sweden have drafted a resolution calling for a 30 day
cessation of hostilities but the measure faces opposition from Russia.
They want to see groups like Jabat al-Nusra and the so-called Islamic
State excluded from a ceasefire.

Moscow has gathered Security Council members to discuss the situation
on the ground.

Space X launches first of 12,000 satellites to provide super-fast internet

A couple who planned to launch a terror attack in Britain over Christmas have been jailed, with the judge saying one of them posed a serious risk of harm to the public.

Cholera Kills 9 Refugees

Refugee Protests in Rwanda
