The United Nations Security Council is meeting to discuss the
escalating violence in Syria's Eastern Ghouta.
Several hundred civilians are believed to have died there since Sunday
and the UN is facing pressure to act.
Kuwait and Sweden have drafted a resolution calling for a 30 day
cessation of hostilities but the measure faces opposition from Russia.
They want to see groups like Jabat al-Nusra and the so-called Islamic
State excluded from a ceasefire.
Moscow has gathered Security Council members to discuss the situation
on the ground.
UN correspondent William Denselow says Russia is pointing the finger
at so-called terrorists operating in Eastern Ghouta.
