Tension Along the Uganda, DR Congo Border

Uganda has beefed up security along the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo.

 

This follows a flare up of tribal clashes between ethnic communities on the DR Congo side.

Trial of Paris terror suspect resumes in Brussels


The trial of the only surviving suspect from the 2015 Paris terror attacks will continue in Belgium on Thursday.  28 year old Salah Abdeslam is facing charges relating to the gunfight in Brussels, where he fled after the attacks,  that led to his arrest.   However he has refused to answer questions from the judge or take part in the trial.     


Abdeslam and his suspected accomplice,  24 year old Sofien Ayari are accused of possessing illegal weapons and attempted murder of police officers.   Those officers will give evidence Thursday as Jack Parrock reports from outside the court in Brussels.

Russian athletes in limbo

Another last-minute appeal hearing for Russian athletes begins today, on the eve of the opening ceremony of the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang.

US Senate announces spending deal to avert shutdown

Pentagon confirms plans being drawn up for Trump military parade

Report: German Social Democrats to Take Over Finance Ministry


According to German media, the center-left Social Democrats will take over Germany's finance ministry from chancellor Angela Merkel's conservatives.

Fake Indian doctor infects 38 people with HIV

Police in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh are on the lookout for an unlicensed doctor who allegedly infected 38 people with HIV.

Officials say that he reused an infected needle on hundreds of patients in exchange for treatment that cost less than half a dollar.
