Putin promises alternative 'Olympics' for banned athletes

FBI and democrats warn against release of secret Republican memo


A top democrat is accusing Republicans of secretly changing a memo that claims the FBI abused its surveillance powers during an investigation into Russia's role in the 2016 U.S. election.

California Congressman Adam Schiff claims the White House was sent a significantly different version of the memo from the one the House Intelligence Committee voted to make public.

US Justice Dept Investigating Sports Corruption


The United States Justice Department has reportedly issued subpoenas in a far reaching investigation of international sports corruption. 
The investigation reportedly includes some of the biggest sports organizations in the world, including FIFA, the International Olympic Committee, the US Olympic Committee, and individuals who have successfully lobbied to host top global competitions.

FBI has grave concerns over memo

The FBI does not want a memo written by the chair of the House Intelligence Committee to be released, saying they have grave concerns.

U.S. President Donald Trump indicated he wants to release the memo, setting a course for a clash with his FBI Director Christopher Wray.

One dead after accident involving train, trash truck

One person is confirmed dead after a passenger train carrying Republican lawmakers to their retreat in West Virginia crashed into a trash truck.

Congressmen with medical training immediately tried to help, as first responders arrived to the scene outside Charlottesville, Virginia.

U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed he spoke with Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives about the accident.

Dozens More Women Accuse Disgraced USA Gymnastics Doctor


Nearly a hundred more women have come forward to say former gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar sexually abused them, according to the judge overseeing his latest sentencing hearing. 
And  the fallout from the abuse cases involving this doctor continues to be felt in the worlds of sports, academics, and politics.
The entire board of USA Gymnastics has resigned, and members of Congress have called for legislation to address the problem, after athletes say their reports of abuse were not believed or acted upon by some coaches, trainers, and other authorities.

Train carrying Congressional GOP hits truck

At least one person is dead and another person is seriously injured after a train carrying Republican lawmakers to a resort for a retreat hit a trash truck.

The accident took place in Albermarle County, Virginia, nearly Charlottesville, and none of the lawmakers or Congressional staffers were injured.

May says she's not a quitter as she talks trade in China


British Prime Minister Theresa May has vowed that she is not a quitter.  This in response to criticism from her own Conservative party that she is not effectively leading the country in Brexit negotiations. 


The British leader said she had no plans to quit as she talked to journalists en route to China although did not directly address recent criticism from some of her backbench MPs who have mooted the idea of a leadership challenge.

Second Phase of South Sudan peace talks to begin


The second phase of the high level revitalization forum of the South Sudan peace agreement will begin in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa on 5th February.

Tonne of bear paws seized in Russia

A gang carrying more than one tonne of bear paws and the body parts of four Siberian tigers have been detained in the Far East of Russia, according to a wildlife organisation there. Indian Supreme Court extends stay on deportation of Rohingya refugees

The Indian Supreme Court has said that the Indian government cannot deport 40,000 Rohingya refugees settled in India for another month.

The Indian government wants to deport the refugees on the grounds that they pose a threat to national security. The move has been challenged in India's highest court by Rohingya refugees.

The next date of hearing in this case is the 7th of March.

Trump promotes "compromise" immigration plan

US President Donald Trump says his immigration reform policies offer
"a down-the-middle compromise", despite opposition from both
Republicans and Democrats.

In his first State of the Union speech the President said he would
give a path to citizenship for 1.8 million illegal immigrants.

But in return he wants funding for the border wall with Mexico,
potentially totaling $25 billion, and end to the visa lottery program
and chain migration.
