Facebook can’t guarantee it’s “good for democracy”

Facebook says it cannot guarantee that it's good for democracy.

It's after accusations that the social media site was used to spread
false information to voters.

Facebook says it's trying to do whatever it can to stop alleged
meddling in elections by Russia or any other countries.

Senate Reaches Deal to End Shutdown

The US Senate is voting to end the government shutdown after reaching a compromise deal on the issue of immigration.

Democrats have withheld their approval for the latest short-term budget resolution over concern for so-called 'dreamers'.

Republicans have made a compromise - to allow Democrats to help craft immigration reform that would include protections for children who grew up without legal status. 

Democrat Senator Dick Durbin is reassuring them.

India Leads on Surging Global Growth Forecasts

India is becoming the fastest growing major economy according to a new report by the International Monetary Fund.

Rex Tillerson hails 'treasured' US relationship with UK on visit to London

The US Secretary of State has visited the new American embassy in London, just days after Donald Trump cancelled a trip to Britain citing anger over the building.

Rex Tillerson met with British Prime Minister Theresa May and with Boris Johnson, the foreign secretary, to discuss security and the Iran nuclear deal. 

He denied reports that the traditionally strong US-UK alliance was under strain.

US federal government implements shutdown procedures

U.S. federal workers are learning whether they are essential and remaining on the job or furloughed as Congressional lawmakers debate a continuing resolution to fund the governent.

Income inequality in India widens

In 2017, the richest 1% in India cornered 73% of the wealth generated in the country.

Compare this to 670 million citizens in India whose wealth rose only by 1%, as per an Oxfam report.

UK Independence Party chief under mounting pressure to quit

The head of the UK Independence Party is facing growing pressure to resign after several senior figures in the pro-Brexit party stepped down over his refusal to quit. 

Henry Bolton lost a vote of no confidence after it emerged his now ex-girlfriend sent racist messages about Prince Harry's finance Meghan Markle. 

Ukip's immigration spokesman John Bickley is one of the latest party officials to resign and called on Bolton to do the same ahead of an emergency party meeting next month.

Catalan Politician Travels Despite Threat of Arrest

Despite serious threats of arrest, Catalan ex-president Carles Puigdemont, is traveling to Denmark Monday morning to participate in a panel being held at the University of Copenhagen.

British Army chief calls for more defense investment to keep up with Russia

Palestinian president Abbas in Brussels

Home and Away actor Jessica Falkholt laid to rest

Funding announced to protect Australia's Great Barrier reef

Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has announced a multi-million-dollar plan to protect the iconic Great Barrier Reef against coral-eating crown-of-thorns starfish and farm run-off.
The $60 million scheme, outlined by Mr Turnbull in Townsville includes funding farmers to reduce sediment run-off and research over the next 18 months.
