EP Approves Advancing Brexit Talks

The European Parliament voted overwhelmingly that Brexit negotiations should move into phase two—which is figuring out a new trade deal between the EU and the UK.

The vote was non-binding, but makes it even more certain that EU leaders will approve advancing Brexit negotiations when they meet in Brussels on Thursday and Friday for the final EU summit of the year.

Many members of the European Parliament were concerned over recent comments made by Britian's Brexit Secretary that what has been agreed during phase one isn't legally binding.

MEPs were assured by the EU that agreements will be folded into law.

While addressing the parliament, the EU's chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier says there's no question negotiating with the UK as it prepares leaves the bloc has been tough.
