UK PM Theresa May delivers parliament speech on Brexit

The UK prime minister Theresa May says Britain should be able to access the European Union's single market but not remain a member of the institutions during a two year translational period as it leaves the bloc.

Her comments come during a speech in the UK's parliament in Westminster on the same day the 5th round of Brexit talks are getting underway in Brussels.

She also said that the crucial issue of the UK's contributions to the EU budget should be resolved while the negotiations begin to look at the future trade relationship.

But the EU says that can't happen until after the divorce settlement is resolved.

It's the first time the British prime minister has spoken since a calamitous address to her conservative party conference at which there was much speculation of a revolt against her leadership.

Theresa May's speech comes before EU leaders meet for a vital summit on Brexit in Brussels on Oct 19th.
