US Supreme Court hears arguments on case determining voter mapping

INTRO:

The US Supreme Court has heard oral arguments in a case which could
change the way American elections are conducted.

A lawsuit from Democrat plaintiffs alleges that Republican lawmakers
in Wisconsin redrew zones in order to tip scales for political gains.

Lawmakers Grill Former Equifax Chief

The former chief executive of Equifax has blamed the company's massive security breach on a combination of human error and technological failures. Richard Smith was grilled by lawmakers in Washington during the first of a series of congressional hearings.

"Silencer" legislation not set for vote - Speaker Ryan

Legislation to allow the broader sale of silencers for guns and rifles is stalled in the U.S. Congress following the tragedy in Las Vegas.

Gun control advocates and law enforcement note that the shooter, Stephen Paddock, was found more easier because the flashes from his rifles could be seen, narrowing the search in the Mandalay Bay Hotel.

The bill was advancing through the U.S. House of Representatives, but now Speaker Paul Ryan says they are focused on budget and tax reform.

Americans urge discussion of gun control

Following the deaths of 58 concert goers in Las Vegas, some Americans are speaking out about the need to seriously discuss gun control.

Polls show that most Americans do support stricter regulations, while the National Rifle Association lobbies for as few rules as possible.

People outside the White House in Washington expressed their shock and horror at the tragedy, including a Peruvian American woman about to travel to Las Vegas.

Puerto Rico impacts federal budget - Pres. Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump has confused many by saying that Hurricane Maria and it's impact on Puerto Rico has thrown the U.S. federal government budget out of whack.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell had already promised hours earlier that the funding process was already well in hand.

U.S. President Donald Trump spent a lot of time thanking first responders, and also his own cabinet members such as Mick Mulvaney, the budget director.

The Trump administration is expelling 15 Cuban diplomats from the embassy in Washington DC, in response to alleged "health attacks" against American personnel in Havana.

US "deeply troubled" by jailing of Crimean dissident; calls for his release

The United States is "deeply troubled" by the conviction and jail sentence of a Crimean dissident opposed to Russia's annexation of Ukraine's Crimea.

The US State Department has called for the release of Ilmi Umerov, saying, the US remains steadfast in its support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.

UN Chief condemns deadly Cameroon clashes

The UN's chief diplomat has strongly condemned the deadly violence in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon.

More than a dozen people were reportedly killed Sunday in clashes between government forces and protestors.

US expected to force out Cuban staff

The United States is expected to ask Cuba to reduce its diplomatic workforce in America by around two thirds.

It comes after the US pulled staff from Havana in response to apparent sonic attacks against American workers.

European Parliament urges EU not to start trade deal talk with UK before "major breakthrough" in brexit talks
