Vladimir Putin calls further North Korea sanctions useless

LEAD:


Russian President Vladimir Putin said that imposing further sanctions on North Korea would be 'useless'.  This comes after the US said it would seek a new UN resolution on tougher sanctions following North Korea's latest test of a nuclear bomb on Sunday.  Vladimir Putin said that ramping up 'military hysteria' could lead to global catastrophe.  Julia Lyubova reports from Moscow.

Top European court rules employers can't read staff email

The European Court of Human Rights has ruled that man whose employer read the personal emails he sent using a work account did have his right to a private life breached.
The Romanian complainant won his appeal after the court had initially found in favour of his employer.

UK PR FIRM SANCTIONED OVER SOUTH AFRICA CONTRACT

A British PR firm has been thrown out of the PRCA industry body over a campaign run in South Africa which critics say fuelled racial tension.

Bell Pottinger’s chief executive James Henderson had already confirmed his resignation over the controversy but the PRCA have handed the firm the strongest sanction available.

UN members urge fresh North Korea sanctions

The United States has asked the United Nations Security Council to
consider fresh sanctions against North Korea.

The US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley called for the "strongest
possible measures" against Pyongyang following its sixth nuclear test.

However China and Russia said dialogue was needed rather than more
sanctions to persuade the country to stop its nuclear and ballistic
missile tests.

The Under-Secretary-General Jeffrey Feltman briefed the Security
Council and expressed his concern at the latest nuclear test.

UN official urges Myanmar’s leadership to protect Rohingya

The United Nations special rapporteur on human rights in Myanmar has
urged the country's de-facto leader to "step in" and ease tensions in
the Rakhine region.

The violence has prompted an estimated 87,000 Rohingya Muslims to flee
