Iraq's PM expected to declare overall victory in Mosul on Monday


Iraq's Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi is expected to declare victory in the battle to retake Mosul from the Islamic State on Monday.

Iraqi forces have been fighting alongside a US-led coalition for almost nine months to liberate the city.

Amid the on-going stand-off between Indian and China in the North Indian state of Sikkim, an editorial carried by the Chinese media warned India of a military retaliation in the contested state of Jammu and Kashmir. 

This comes even as another article in the state run China Daily newspaper warns India of 'serious consequences' if it doesn't withdraw its troops from the Doklam region- an area that both China and Bhutan claims as its own. 

Last week, Chinese media said that a scheduled bilateral meeting between President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Modi at the sidelines of the G20 summit was called off. India however claimed no such meeting had been scheduled.

European Parliament leaders threaten Brexit veto

Leaders of the main political parties in the European Parliament say they will reject a Brexit agreement if the current offer on citizens rights isn't improved.

The case of terminally-ill baby Charlie Gard is back at the High Court in London later (Monday).

It's been referred back to the court by Great Ormond Street Hospital after new data was received from foreign healthcare providers.

The 11 month-old is on life support at Great Ormond Street and doctors there have previously said traveling to the US for experimental treatment would not be in his best interest.

India to import US crude for the first time

Tens of thousands expected at anti-government rally in Turkey

Tens of thousand of people are expected to take part in the end of a March in Turkey against the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The so called justice March began in the Turkish capital of Ankara on June fifteenth and is now arriving in the country's largest city of Istanbul.

122 Nations Endorse UN Treaty Banning Nuclear Weapons

Nearly two thirds of United Nations states have agreed to back a treaty banning nuclear weapons. 

This comes after months of talks, which were boycotted by countries including the US, Britain, and France, who instead pledged their commitment to a Non-Proliferation Treaty dating back to 1970.
