France's National Assembly elections in focus after Macron victory

The newly elected President of France, Emmanuel Macron, has promised to unite the country after winning 66% of the vote and defeating far right candidate Marine Le Pen.


But despite the convincing victory, focus is now shifting to the next of France's elections in June, in which the country will decide on its National Assembly.


This is already being seen as Macron's first major test as President and an opportunity for his opponent Marine Le Pen, as our Correspondent in Paris Olly Barratt explains

Nigeria President Returns to UK for Medical Treatment



The Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari is to receive further medical treatment in the UK, after a seven week stint at a London hospital in January.


It's not known how long the President will be absent for, with an official statement saying the duration would be determined by the doctors

EU commission president says Turkish reintroduction of death penalty is "reddest of red lines" in accession

Australian Federal Budget - potential foreign aid cuts - again.

Charity groups have warned further cuts to Australia's foreign aid
budget are reckless, inhumane and could result in more refugees

Australian Budget Tuesday - Medicare freeze rebate unwinding expected

Tuesday is federal budget day for Australia, and already a number of changes have been leaked or announced.
Education has received positive news with the announcement of Gonski version 2.0 giving a more equal distribution of funds, but things like the Medicare rebate freeze are unlikely to be completely unwound leaving the government still vulnerable to the whims of a hostile senate.

Emmanuel Macron has been elected as France's new President.


The 39 year old becomes the country's youngest leader, after defeating far-right candidate Marine Le Pen in the second round of the elections.


He won 66% of the vote and has promised to turn a new page in France's history. But as our correspondent in Paris, Olly Barratt reports, the newly elected President will need to make good on his pledge to fight divisions within society.

300 students hospitalized after gas leak near Delhi schools

A gas leak near two government schools in New Delhi over the weekend led to 300 students being hospitalized. 

The students are now out of danger and the Delhi government has ordered a probe.

New French President Macron Addresses Supporters In Paris

Thousands of supporters of the new French President, Emmanuel Macron, have gathered in the centre of Paris to celebrate his victory over Marine Le Pen.

The 39 year old centrist candidate, who founded his own political party, En Marche!, last year, has become the country's youngest ever head of state.

After a bitterly fought election campaign, Mr. Macron said the country was turning a new page, and vowed to spend his five years in office fighting what he called the 'forces of division'.

He also gave a heartfelt thank you to his supporters:

Former Acting AG Sally Yates to testify on Mike Flynn

Less than 50 per cent of homes in America now have a phone landline -
but elsewhere in the world usage is still much higher.

That's according to figures out from the US government.
