US Justice Dept finds Chicago police have pattern of deadly force, racial bias

The US Justice Department has found that the Chicago Police Department regular uses of excessive force, particularly against African Americans and Latinos.

Outgoing Attorney General Loretta Lynch announced the findings of the investigation Friday, and said considerable work needs to be done to reform the city's police force.

The investigation was launched after a white police officer shot African American teenager Laquan McDonald sixteen times.

The incident was captured on tape, and prompted an outcry.

The Department of Justice will now begin talks with Chicago city officials to enter a "consent decree" - which means the police department will come to an agreement with the DOJ without having to admit guilt.

Attorney General Lynch said trust needs to be rebuilt between the city's residents and the police force.

The leak was earlier dismissed by Donald Trump and the Kremlin as groundless. Our correspondent Daria Bondarchuk reports from Moscow.
