Europe's highest court says Muslim girls do have to attend mixed swimming lessons

TThe European Court of Human Rights has ruled Muslim girls in Switzerland do have to attend swimming lessons with boys.

The case was brought by two Swiss Muslim parents who had refused to send their daughters to compulsory mixed swimming lessons in the city of Basel.

US citizens in Haiti 'moved to safety' after ex-coup leader extradited to Florida


Haitian authorities have moved dozens of U.S. citizens to safety after attempted attacks by supporters of Haitian Senator-elect Guy Philippe, who was arrested and extradited to the US last week, reports Reuters.

Phillipe, who rose to prominence after he led a coup against Haiti's President in 2004, face charges in Miami court.

Sec. Kerry defends Syria policy

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is defending American policy on Syria, especially the promise by President Obama to use military force against Syria if President Assad used chemical weapons.

The U.S. military has confirmed to the Washington Post that it is now coordinating drone flights with the Turkish military as the fight against the Islamic State continues.

While some believe that the U.S. military should be on the ground in Syria, Secretary Kerry told an audience at the U.S. Institute of Peace that getting rid of the chemical weapons was a better deal.

Democrats Call for Review After Trump Appoints Son in Law as Adviser

A group of Democrats in the US are pushing for the Justice Department and the Office of Government Ethics to look into Donald Trump's appointment of his son-in-law Jared Kushner as a top adviser.

Mr. Kushner, who's married to the President Elect's daughter Ivanka, will step down as a newspaper publisher and from his property business, according to his lawyer.

Democrats urge delays for Trump cabinet nomination hearings

The nomination hearing for U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions to become the next U.S. Attorney General is the first of many nominations hearings before U.S. Senate Committees.

Blacklisted Russian hits back at US

One of the five people blacklisted by the United States this week says
it was done as a last act of spite by the Obama administration.

Lawmaker Andrei Lugovoi is wanted for murder in the United Kingdom and
the move comes on the heels of the US expelling 35 diplomats in

The UK is having to deal with further strike action on Tuesday, as British Airways cabin crews and Southern Rail carry out industrial action.


Passengers could expect some flight disruption at Heathrow, while Southern Rail has advised against all but essential train travel on their network.

UK in the "front seat" for a US trade deal

A senior Republican Senator has said that Britain will be in the "front seat" to negotiate a new trade deal with the incoming Trump Administration, following a meeting with British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.

Strike misery for London commuters continues with train drivers walking out - a day after much of the London Underground network was closed because of industrial action.

Unions are locked in a dispute with Southern rail over its commitment to driver-only-operated trains, with no traditional guards on board.
