Senior Republicans Abandon Donald Trump

It's been another bad day for Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump, with dozens of Republican officials urging that the party stop spending money on his campaign.

The extraordinary move follows a series of controversial statements by Mr Trump that have alienated huge swathes of the country, and sent shock-waves through the party.

US urges lowering of tensions between Russia and Ukraine

Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko has sold his troops to be combat ready, after reports of Russian troops massing along the Crimea / Ukraine border.

Russia has accused Ukraine of carrying out incursions into Crimea, allegations rejected as a fantasy by Kiev.

At the U.S. State Department, deputy spokesperson Elizabeth Trudeau urged both sides to talk.

Condemnation for alledged chemical weapons attack in Syria

The United Nations says, if it is proven that chemical weapons were used in Aleppo, that would be a war crime.

According to videos on social media, and other reports, at least four people died and many children were treated for exposure to chlorine gas.

U.S. State Department deputy spokesperson Elizabeth Trudeau says the Obama administration is very worried about the increasing number of these reports:

Hillary Clinton draws contrast with Donald Trump's economic vision

Hillary Clinton has laid out her economic vision for America and accused her rival Donald Trump of wanting to build an economy for himself and his friends.

In a speech in Michigan the Democratic nominee sought to present a contrast between her policies and those of her Republican rival.



Mrs. Clinton said Donald Trump was pushing the "failed theory of trickle down economics".

US deports former Guatemalan Soldier


U.S. authorities have confirmed they've deported a former Guatemalan soldier accused of helping carry out a massacre of more than 160 people in 1982.

Santos Lopez Alonzo had tried to avoid being deported saying he was afraid he'd be tortured in Guatemala in revenge for helping Washington prosecute one of his former comrades.

UN investigating reports of chlorine attack in Aleppo, says Syria envoy

The United Nations is investigating reports of a chlorine gas attack in the Syrian city of Aleppo.


The UN special envoy for Syrian Staffan de Mistura said if confirmed, this would amount to a war crime.

Trump repeats Islamic State claim against Pres. Obama

Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, is repeating the false claim that U.S. President Barack Obama is the founder of the Islamic State.

The Clinton campaign has put out a statement saying the Republican nominee has an aversion to the truth and  an unprecedented lack of knowledge, who is failing to offer any serious plans.

At a meeting of the National Association of Home Builders, Donald Trump refused to back down.

US Democrat leaders called computer hacking attack "electronic Watergate"

Athlete wins first independent gold at Olympics

Fehaid Al-Deehani has become the first athlete at the Olympic Games to
win a gold medal as an independent.

The Kuwaiti international has won medals for his country at previous
Olympics but Kuwait was banned by the International Olympic Committee
in 2015.

It's the first medal won by an independent athlete since the Games in
Barcelona back in 1992.

Swedish prosecutors to question Julian Assange at Ecuador's embassy

A date is expected to be set for Swedish prosecutors to interview Wikileaks founder Julian Assange inside the Ecuadorian Embassy, where he has been living for four years under political asylum.


The officials from Sweden are investigation rape allegations which Mr Assange denies and believes that if he goes to Sweden to face trial, he will be extradited to the US because of his activities with Wikileaks.
