US and Russia Spar Over Syria

The US has accused Russia of carrying out airstrikes in southern Syria against American-backed rebel forces, saying they'll raise the matter with Moscow.

But Russia in turn accused the Americans of relying on what it called terrorist factions in Syria to try and unseat the country's Kremlin-supported President, Bashar al-Assad.

MSF rejects EU funds in protest over refugee policy

Campaigning in Britain's EU referendum campaign remains suspended after MP Jo Cox was shot dead on Thursday.

Vigils have been held for the 41 year-old mother-of-two who died in her own constituency in the north of England.

One eyewitness report suggests the attacker shouted 'put Britain First' as the incident took place - leading to speculation it was politically motivated.

A 52 year-old man has been arrested - named locally as Tommy Mair, described by people who knew him as a 'loner.

IAAF vote on Russian ban

Russia’s sports minister has urged the world athletics chief to lift a ban that would prevent Russia from competing in the Rio Olympics. Vitaly Mutko said his country was ready to assist the World Anti-Doping Agency in testing Russian sportspeople for doping any way it could. The Council of the International Association of Athletics Federations will meet in Vienna on Friday to decide if Russia can return to athletics having been banned since November. President Barack Obama has met with the families of the victims of the Orlando gay nightclub shooting.

Omar Mateen killed 49 people with a military style automatic AR-15 weapon, 23 others remain in hospital.

Obama poured scorn on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's argument that arming club-goers would have helped reduce those casualties.

He also warned against politics that seeks to amplify divisions in society.
