Hillary Clinton Claims Democratic Presidential Nomination


Democrat Hillary Clinton is poised to become the first woman in U.S. history to accept a major party's nomination for president. 

She claimed the Democratic presidential nomination after decisive victories in the New Jersey and New Mexico primaries.

The milestone comes nearly a century after women won the right to vote in the United States.

At a rally in New York, Clinton told supporters there is no longer a glass ceiling.

Sanders suggests he'll fight on

Senator Bernie Sanders is indicating that he will continue to contest the outcome of the race for the Democratic Party's Presidential nomination even after news organizations said Hillary Clinton had convincingly beaten him.


Mrs. Clinton is poised to claim victory after a string of fresh primary contests in the United States.


But Mr. Sanders told America's NBC News that he's continuing to try and attract the support of so-called "super delegates" to the Party's convention next month, in a bid to turn the tide.

Brazil prosecutor requests arrest of three senators and ex president

Human Rights Watch accuses Congolese peacekeepers of 18 killings

Peacekeeping soldiers from the Republic of Congo killed at least 18
people - including women and children - in the Central African

Russia-backed Syrian forces & US-backed militia close in on ISIL strongholds in Raqqa, Manbij

Two separate offensives against the Islamic State group's strongholds in Syria are converging around Raqqa province and near the city of Manbij.

UN removes Saudia Arabia from list of perpetrators in Children and Armed Conflict report

UN says men fleeing Fallujah face torture, execution

The United Nations says it has "credible reports " that Iraqi men and
boys are being abused by groups associated with the Iraqi army as they
flee Fallujah.

House Speaker Paul Ryan concedes Trump guilty of "textbook racism"

The most powerful elected Republican in Washington is conceding that Donald Trump has been guilty of "textbook racism" by criticizing a federal judge with Mexican ancestry.


Paul Ryan, the speaker of the House of Representatives, says he "absolutely disavows" Mr. Trump's comments, which came just days after Mr. Ryan endorsed Mr. Trump for the Presidency.


The issue concerns the judge who is overseeing a legal case about Trump University.


The Republican Presidential candidate says the judge cannot be fair, because he's of Mexican descent.

At least 11 people are dead after a bombing in central Istanbul, which Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is blaming on Kurdish militants.

Foreign Office issues Euro 2016 terror warning

Football fans travelling to Euro 2016 in France have been warned by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office about a potential terror threat.
 
Advice has been issued to those going to the upcoming tournament, telling them to be on their guard at all times.

Turkey's FM says they'll suspend EU-Turkey deal on migrants without visa-free travel for Turks

Turkey's foreign minister says they will suspend their deal with the European Union in tackling the migrant crisis if there is no agreement on offering Turkish citizens visa-free travel.
