UN Condemns Baghdad Attacks

The United Nations has condemned the multiple car bomb attacks in Iraq's capital Baghdad that have killed almost 100 people.

The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the blasts which targeted mainly Shia areas of the city.

UN calls for involve states to stop Syria war crimes

The unlawful targeting of civilian safe holds in Syria must be stopped
by all states who support a peaceful process, the United Nations war
crime investigators said.

This call to action comes a week after the UN security Council passed
a unanimous resolution condemning airstrikes on medical facilities and
staff in Syria.

UGANDA PRESIDENT INAUGURATION PREPARATIONS

Preparations are underway in Uganda for the swearing-in ceremony of President Yoweri Museveni.


Museveni won the February presidential polls that were disputed by the opposition who have remained critical of his reelection for a fifth term

Security has been tightened in Uganda's capital Kampala ahead of  President Yoweri Museveni's inauguration


He'll take the oath on Thursday after winning a disputed election in February 


The country's supreme court upheld his victory after a failed petition by the opposition



But the opposition has boycotted  Thursday's inauguration ceremony and their planned protests have been outlawed.


Police have detained some key opposition figures and the army says it will keep the security tight.



President Museveni's main rival  Kiiza Besigye has been detained at his home to stop him from taking part in demonstrations

Cameron set to welcome leaders to anti-corruption conference in London

UK Prime Minister David Cameron is set to welcome delegates from countries across the world for a major anti-corruption conference in London.

The purpose of the summit is for a coalition of governments, businesses, international organisations and others to talk about practical steps to make tackling corruption a global priority.

But Mr Cameron's recent indiscretion calling both Nigeria and Afghanistan 'corrupt countries' is likely to take a spotlight, despite the Nigerian President agreeing with his statement.

Oil firms restart after Canada wildfires

Oil companies are restarting production in the Canadian province of Alberta following a week of wildfires.

Although separate fires are still burning across the area the companies are able to start work again at a reduced rate.

Germany moves to annul homosexuality convictions

Germany's Justice Minister said he will move forward with plans to annul convictions for homosexuality under an archaic law.

About 50,000 mean were convicted in West Germany between 1946 and 1969.

Protests in Venezuela against delay to government recall petition

Thousands of people are taking to the streets in Venezuela to demonstrate against a major delay in the processing a government recall petition.

The opposition in the country has collected nearly 2 million signatures but the National Electoral Council is yet to validate - a step which could result in a referendum to overthrow the government.

Nigeria's President says he won't be demanding an apology after Britain's Prime Minister was overheard telling the Queen that Nigeria is 'fantastically corrupt'.

Muhammadu Buhari instead says he will be asking for further British assistance in the fight against corruption.

British Prime Minister David Cameron was caught on camera making the comments to Queen Elizabeth ahead of a summit in London on Thursday on corruption.

In the House of Commons Mr Cameron responded to a question from a lawmaker on British overseas territories which are used as tax havens - with a reference to his own diplomatic gaffe.

West Ham Fans Investigated for Man Utd Bus Attack

Police in the UK are investigating an attack on the Manchester United team bus by West Ham fans, ahead of the match at Upton Park between the two sides.


The West Ham football club says it will issue life bans to any fans found responsible for the incident, in which objects were thrown at the bus outside the ground.

Brown enters the Brexit fray

Russia “concerned” by doping allegations

Authorities in Russia say they are concerned by fresh allegations of
doping among their athletes at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
