Rocket makes historic landing

Having sent 11 satellites into orbit the US company Space X also
managed to land its rocket upright around 10 kilometers from where it
initially took off.

It's not the first time the feat has been achieved but marks a huge
breakthrough for Space X and it's chief executive Elon Musk.

Britain sends military personnel to Afghanistan

Britain's Ministry of Defence has revealed that military personnel from the UK have been deployed to Afghanistan.


It comes amid reports that the Taliban are close to taking control of Sangin in Helmand province.

EU migrant numbers pass one million mark

The International Organisation for Migration says the number of migrants entering Europe by land and sea this year has passed the one million mark...

EU sanctions against Russia come into force

The European Union's extended sanctions against Russia over it's involvement in the Ukrainian civil conflict have come into force. They hit state-owned companies and individuals linked to the Kremlin's annexation of Crimea in 2014 and for supporting anti-government rebels in eastern Ukraine. Russia will refrain from reciprocal measures, Moscow says, downplaying the EU's move as "lacking logic". Daria Bondarchuk reports from Moscow.

UK DEPLOYS TROOPS TO HELMAND AMID TALIBAN SIEGE

The UK has deployed military personnel to Helmand province in Afghanistan amid a siege of Sangin Town by Taliban militants.

Helmand's governor has denied claims by the Taliban that it is now in complete control of Sangin.

Sangin used to be the centre of operations for international forces in Afghanistan and would give the Taliban a key base in Helmand with links to the north, and potential revenue from the opium trade there.

Iran angry at US proposals on visa restrictions

Iran is reacting angrily to legislation before the U.S. Congress that would restrict travel to America by persons who have visited key Middle Eastern countries within a certain time span.

The bill is intended to reduce the risk of a Paris-style attack.

But the Iranians say it violates the carefully negotiated nuclear deal, the JCPOA, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

Taliban advance on Sangin

The Afghan city of Sangin may be overrun by the Taliban, according to reports from the region.

Local afghan officials have been begged for additional help.

U.S. special forces have been spotted in Kunduz, and also in Lashkar Gah in Helmand province, aiding Afghan soldiers in their strategy to fight the Taliban.

At the United Nations, the chief of the mission to Afghanistan, Nicholas Heysom, said the situation cannot stand.
