US reviewing Keystone XL request, additional delays possible

The U.S. State Department is reviewing a request from TransCanada to suspend the review & application of the proposed Keystone XL pipeline.

The controversial project would bring an estimated 800,000 barrels a day of tarsands crude oil from Alberta, Canada to the Gulf of Mexico.

Veteran BBC Radio 4 announcer and voice of nuclear attack warning dies

The veteran British broadcaster Peter Donaldson - who was known as the voice of BBC Radio 4 - has died from cancer at the age of 70...

The former actor has been described as "a magnificent broadcaster" - and was renowned for previously leading a revolt against management at the corporation.

Online retailer Amazon opens physical book-shop in Seattle

The online retailer Amazon.com, which got its start selling books on the internet, is opening a bookshop in Seattle - its first physical retail space worldwide.


The company says the shop will be a "physical extension" of its business.

US to return to South China Sea

The United States has announced they will continue to travel in
international waters with the South China Sea being no exception.

Last week a US warship came within 12-nautical miles of the Spratly
archipelago despite warnings from China.

US company buys creator of Candy Crush Saga

The US computer games company Activision Blizzard is set purchase the company which created Candy Crush Saga, one of the most popular games available on mobiles, in a deal worth $5.9 billion.

Downing Street is denying reports UK Prime Minister David Cameron has decided not to hold a parliamentary vote on whether to extend air strikes against the Islamic State into Syria.

Second plane with bodies of Russian passenger jet crash victims arrived in St.Petersburg

More remains of Saturday's KGL9268 flight passengers recovered at the crash site in Egypt have been delivered to Saint Petersburg. Iran 'deactivating centrifuges' as part of nuclear deal


Only when Tehran adheres to the conditions of the Iran nuclear deal will it receive sanctions relief, the message from the US state department on Monday.

The response came amid reports the Islamic republic has begun to take its atomic centrifuges offline in accordance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

The nuclear deal, intended to block Iran's path to a nuclear weapon, was agreed between the US, Iran and other nations back in July

Zanzibar's president has term extended after vote cancelled, citing fraud


Zanzibar's President will stay in office until fresh elections can be held on the semi-autonomous Tanzanian Islands, according to a local government statement.

The region's election commission annulled a recent vote citing "gross violations". 

The main opposition group Civic United Front (CUF) had originally claimed victory ahead of the result, but have since called on supporters to remain calm during this latest period of uncertainty in Zanzibar's history.

Cuba to hold international trade fair
