SIERRA LEONEAN SPRINTER DENIED UK STAY

A Sierra Leonean sprinter who applied to stay in the UK after going missing following the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014 has been told his bid has been rejected.

Jimmy Thoronka stayed in Britain as Sierra Leone battled the Ebola outbreak, but he will now have to return home.

Iranian troops arrive in Syria

LEAD: Hundreds of Iranian troops have arrived in Syria to join Russian forces in a major ground offensive in support of Syria's president Bashar al-Assad. Germany mulls stricter asylum laws

Germany is considering a law to to turn away so-called economic
migrants at the border if they don't qualify for refugee status.

The country expects to take in close to one million asylum-seekers
this year, the most in Europe.

Kremlin eyes Normandy Four talks in Paris with "moderate optimism"

Obama reacts angrily to Oregon shooting - calls for new gun laws

President Obama is again calling on Congress to pass gun control laws after another mass shooting in America.  Ten people including the gunman were killed and seven more injured after suspected shooter Chris Harper Mercer opened fire at Umpqua Community College in Oregon.

10 dead on Oregon shooting - officials refuse to name gunman

Officials in Oregon are refusing to name the suspected shooter who massacred students at Umpqua [[ UMP-kwuh ]] Community College.
However, multiple media sources have identified him as 26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer.  Ten people including the gunman were killed and seven injured.   
Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin said he'll never utter the killer's name.

TPP talks continue in Atlanta

The Trans Pacific Partnership talks have been granted an extension as ministers continue to negotiate a deal which could affect up to 40 percent of the world's trade.

Ten People Confirmed Dead in Oregon Community College Shooting



Authorities confirm 10 people died and seven more were injured in a shooting at a  community college in  southern Oregon.

'Normandy Four' hold talks in Paris on Ukraine

Russia's President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Petro are meeting in Paris on Friday to discuss the absence of a ceasefire in East Ukraine.

They'll hold talks with French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the so-called Minsk agreement signed last February, which has not been respected by either side.

Anti-abortion campaigner denied entry to Australia

Controversial anti-abortion campaigner Troy Newman will learn today whether he can stay in Australia or be deported back the US.

13 dead in US school shooting

At least 13 people have died with 20 more injured during a school shooting in the US state of Oregon.

The 20 year old gunman has been killed by police during a shootout at Umpqua Community College in the rural town of Roseburg, according to officials.

The White House says President Obama has been briefed on the situation and FBI agents are on the scene.

The small college has a population of 3,000 students.

Oregon Governor Kate Brown says police are securing the premises.

Israel's Prime Minster slams Iran nuclear deal

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has denounced the Iran nuclear deal in a speech at the United Nations General Assembly.

Netanyahu argued that the deal doesn't stop Iran from creating a nuclear weapon.

US and Russian defense dept. talk airstrikes

US and Russian defense officials spoke Thursday in an effort deconflict their operations inside Syria, in what the US says is the first in a series of such talks.

White House spokesperson Josh Earnest said during the hour-long video teleconference, US officials raised concerns that Russian airstrikes are not solely targeting locations of Islamic State militants.

He said Moscow seems to be striking indiscriminately, without differentiating between terrorists and armed civilians who oppose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
