EU holds talks with Volkswagen over emissions scandal

The EU's industry commissioner is due to meet with Volkwagen executives in Brussels to discuss the carmaker's cheating on emission tests.

But as the EU's top regulator for pollution emissions, the European Commission is also under fire for dragging its feet against carmakers despite evidence of suspicious pollution testing.

International shark summit underway in Sydney

In Sydney a shark summit is underway featuring experts from Australia, South Africa and the US.
The summit comes following attacks off the coast of four states this year which led to the deaths of two people, and five last year.

Australian authorities preparing to regulate Uber

Ridesharing service Uber is facing resistance in Australia. The service has been providing competition to taxi services in all state and territory capitals with varying responses from authorities.

Russia bans Ukraine from its airspace in a tit-for-tat move

Russia said it would close its airspace for Ukrainian flights as of October 25. Kiev introduced a similar ban last week, specifying that Russian transit flights carrying military personnel or dual-purpose goods will be denied access to Ukrainian airspace. UN SANCTIONS EXTENDED TO UK MILITANTS

UN sanctions are to be extended to four British Islamic State jihadists, at the UK's request.

The four men who are fighting for or recruiting for ISIS in Syria will face travel bans and a freeze of their assets.

The new tactic to try and stop people traveling to the region to join the Islamic State comes amid a new diplomatic push on the issue at the UN General Assembly in New York.

Russia is urging a co-ordinated international response to tackle I.S. in Syria - but continues to support President Bashar al Assad.

Iran's President Hasan Rouhani addresses UN General Assembly

Catalonia to seek independence after winning regional elections

Russian President reaffirms support for Syria ahead of speech at the United Nations
