Catalonia to seek independence after winning regional elections

Russian President reaffirms support for Syria ahead of speech at the United Nations

Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed in an interview to the American CBS TV channel that Moscow will continue to support Damascus, saying the Russian military in Syria will not participate in ground operations "right now". The US and China have reached an agreement to stop commercial cyber espionage during a summit with Xi Jinping.

China's President has denied complaints that his government has tacitly supporting hacking activities to obtain commercial secrets from US companies.

Now top officials will regularly discuss combating cyber crime and set up a hotline to address daily issues.

Tensions remain over China's land reclamation in the South China Sea.
