Putin blames the West for Syria crisis, Ukraine

LEAD: Russian president Vladimir Putin has blamed Western countries for continuing crisis in Syria and has called for an international coalition on fighting ISIS. The Presidents of some of the world's largest countries have addressed the UN General Assembly in New York. 

US President Barack Obama , China's President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke within the first few hours, laying out their vision of world order.

Putin launches coalition to support Syrian President Bashar al-Assad

Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed leading a new coalition to battle Islamic State.

Catalonia to seek independence after winning regional elections

Pro-independence parties in Spain's catalonia region have won an absolute majority during this weekend's regional elections.

Russian President reaffirms support for Syria ahead of speech at the United Nations

Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed in an interview to the American CBS TV channel that Moscow will continue to support Damascus, saying the Russian military in Syria will not participate in ground operations "right now". He urged international allies to coordinate efforts in helping Bashar al Assad, who the West wants to step down, to fight the Islamic State terrorist organisation in the Middle East. Nauru and Manus centre operator claims detention centre workers can be whistleblowers

The operator of Australia's offshore detention centres has encouraged workers to raise any concerns they have about the treatment of asylum seekers at the facilities.

China's President has denied complaints that his government has tacitly supporting hacking activities to obtain commercial secrets from US companies.
