The announcement comes as pressure mounts from the families of the missing ones, who demand an international commission of experts take over the case.

After speaking to members of the US Congress in Washington DC, and spending his lunchtime feeding the city’s homeless, Pope Francis has now touched down in New York City for the next leg of his US tour.

More than 700 dead at Hajj stampede in Saudi Arabia

More than 700 people have been killed and at least 900 injured in a stampede during the annual Hajj festival in Mecca.

The deaths occurred on the first day of Eid al-Adha, one of the holiest days in the Muslim calendar.

The Saudi Health Ministry says some pilgrims failed to follow guidelines for the movement of people during the Hajj.

At least one million people travel to Saudi Arabia each year to attend the event.

British politician Sadiq Khan has taken his mother to the hajj in the past, and says it can be a dating experience.
