UN Supports Push for Syrian Peace Talks

Unanimously backing a push for Syrian peace talks, The United Nations
Security Council passed a statement supporting fresh negotiations
after scores were killed in government air strikes on a rebel-held
town outside of Damascus. The Council statement backs a plan to create
teams, who will help facilitate a political transition and end to the
ongoing conflict.

Wal-Mart release quarterly earnings

Retail giant Wal-Mart has released earnings for the second quarter
falling short of Wall Street estimates.

Clinton and Green Groups Oppose Obama's Decision on Arctic Drilling

Hillary Clinton criticizes Obama's Arctic oil decision

Hillary Clinton has criticized President Obama's decision to allow Royal Dutch Shell to resume drilling for oil in the Arctic.

Facebook hacker pleads guilty in US court

A computer hacker who hijacked the accounts of more than 77 thousand Facebook users has pleaded guilty to charges of cybercrime in the US.


Eric Crocker used the online persona "Phastman" before he was arrested during a joint US-American policing operation.

Several dead in fresh Eastern Ukraine fighting

BANKS PREPARE FOR FX CLAIMS

Global banks are reportedly facing billions of dollars in civil claims over foreign exchange market rigging.

The Financial Times says lawyers are preparing cases in London, and that claims could also extend to Hong Kong and Singapore.

It follows a legal settlement in New York last week in which banks including Barclays, Goldman Sachs and HSBC agreed a $2bn dollar settlement with investors affected by rigging in the forex markets.

Police in Thailand say there are investigating a suspect seen on CCTV footage at the Erawan Hindu shrine which was bombed on Monday.

At least 21 people are known to have been killed in the bombing in the capital, Bangkok.

Chelsea Manning supporters accuse US of harassment over latest charges

Supporters of the jailed former American soldier Chelsea Manning say she's being threatened with indefinite solitary confinement after being accused of "disrespect" and "disorderly conduct" at a military prison in Kansas.


More than 75 thousand people have signed a petition accusing the US government of deliberate harassment of the former soldier who is serving a 35 year sentence for providing secret documents to the website Wikileaks.

Questions over anti-malaria tablet given to UK soldiers

Britain's Government is being urged to stop giving an anti-malaria drug to soldiers after claims its side effects have been linked to mental illnesses.
