GUN ATTACK ON US CONSULATE IN ISTANBUL

Two attackers opened fire on the US consulate in Istanbul early on Monday morning - a few hours after a bombing at a suburban police station killed three people and injured 10.

It comes after Turkey launched a two-pronged assault on both the Islamic State organisation and the Kurdish PKK militant group.

The UK farming industry is holding an urgent summit amid growing protests about milk prices.

UK LAUNCHES FRESH MIGRANT WORKER CRACKDOWN

The UK government is launching a major new crackdown on businesses that employ illegal workers.


It comes in response to the migrant crisis which has seen thousands of people trying to gain access to the UK from France via the channel tunnel.

US military sends jets to Turkey

The Pentagon has confirmed that a small detachment of fighter jets and support personnel have arrived at the major Turkish airbase at Incirlik.

Turkey has been criticized for essentially turning a blind eye to the expansion of the Islamic State organization but has changed it's strategy in recent weeks.

White House lobbies for Iran nuclear deal despite high-level Democratic defections.

President Obama is fighting hard to get enough political support to pass the controversial Iran nuclear deal.
While most Republicans have long opposed the deal, a key Democratic Senator, Chuck Schumer, now says he'll vote against it. Schumer, who is Jewish and a strong supporter of Israel, says there aren't enough guarantees that Iran won't eventually develop nuclear weapons. He's the second Senior Democrat to come out against the deal.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest says despite the defections, the President is committed to the agreement:

President Obama will veto any Congressional vote against the deal: attention will focus on the Senate, as it could over-ride a Presidential veto with a two thirds majority. MH370 search around Reunion expanded

France says it will begin land, sea and air searches around the island of Reunion to try to find debris belonging to Malaysia Airlines flight MH370...

Authorities in Malaysia say a wing part found on the island in the Indian Ocean last week was part of the aircraft which went missing mid flight in March last year.
