Eurogroup freezes Greece talks until referendum

The eurozone has slammed the door to further talks with the Greek government until the country decides on the next course of action in a referendum on Sunday.

Finance ministers of Europe's single currency said they took into account Prime Minister Tsipras's latest offering - a revised bailout proposal which appeared to give some concessions.

But the leftist government in Athens has remained firm on areas like pension age and tax exemptions for some Greek islands.

Eurozone leaders on Wednesday dismissed the possibility of renegotiating Greece's expired bailout, instead calling for Greek voters to choose 'yes' in a referendum on whether the country should accept a bailout program to avoid a Greek default and exit from the euro.... a fate Prime Minister Tsipras denies will be the case should voters choose 'no'.

After a short teleconference President of the Eurogroup Jeroen Dijsselbloem said no talks will be held until after Sunday.

US condemns deadly ISIS attacks on Egyptian military sites

The US has condemned the series of deadly attacks carried out in Egypt by Islamic State militants.

Toyota's first female managing director resigns after arrest in Japan

Car maker Toyota's first female managing director has resigned following her arrest on suspicion of illegally importing the painkiller oxycodone into Japan.
American Julie Hamp was arrested on June 18 after customs officials found tablets of oxycodone in a parcel shipped to her from the United States.

US and Cuba formally reopen diplomatic relations

After a half century of shuttered ties, the United States has formally re-established diplomatic relations with Cuba.

Speaking from the White House, US President Barack Obama announced the re-opening of embassies in Washington and Havana.

He said Secretary of State John Kerry will travel to Cuba later this summer to raise the American flag over the US embassy.

Greek PM urges 'No' vote

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has given a televised speech insisting Sunday's referendum will not be about whether his country stays or exits the euro.

Tsipras said a 'No' vote will trigger a better deal with creditors, despite Eurozone leaders pushing for a 'yes'.

Family of 12 go missing from Britain, feared to be in Syria

Police in Britain say they are concerned about a family of 12 people, who may have travelled to Syria from their home in Luton. 

The family were due back in the UK after visiting their home country of Bangladesh, but the group, which includes two grandparents and 3 children, are believed to have made a stop in Turkey and have not returned.   From London, Catherine Drew reports.

French Soldiers in Africa Suspended Over Abuse Allegations

France has suspended two of its soldiers over allegations that they sexually abused children in the West African country of Burkina Faso, while stationed in the region as part of a French anti-terror operation. Prosecutors in Paris have opened their own investigation into the complaints, one of which was made by the father of an alleged victim who is five-years-old.

Russia halts gas supplies to Ukraine after price talks break down

Russian state energy giant Gazprom has halted gas supplies to Ukraine after talks on price broke down.

Greece's newest proposal rejected by German politicians

German politicians have rejected the newest concessions offered by Greece Tuesday night, saying no new agreement can be made until Sundays referendum on the creditors' proposals.

In an address to the German parliament Chancellor Angela Merkel also told MPs that the rest of Europe has a right to have an opinion as the vote will affect the rest of the eurozone

Cameron refused to comment on Heathrow expansion report

A long awaited report about airport expansion in Britain has recommended a third runway be added to the country's largest airport, Heathrow. 

The Airports Commission, an independent body, says a new runway at Heathrow would would create around $200 billion US dollars in economic growth and 70 thousand extra jobs by 2050.

The report is highly divisive. Around 800 homes would be destroyed to make way for the new runway and there would be costly changes needed to rail and road links.

Gatwick Airport, also on the fringes of London,  is arguing it should be expanded instead of Heathrow. 

During Prime Minister's Question Time in Parliament, David Cameron refused to comment on the report but confirmed a decision on airport expansion would come this year.

Greek PM Tsipras reportedly requests new bailout

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is reported to be ready to accept all conditions from the country's international creditors, with only a few minor changes. 

This would take Greece back to the deal that was on the table this past weekend, before it became the first European country to default on its loans. 

In a two page letter, sent to the European Commission, the International Monetary Fund and the European Central Bank, the Greek leader requests a new 29 billion Euro bailout, according to the Finance Times newspaper which obtained a copy of the letter. 

It's possible the  letter could serve as the basis of a new bailout, however as Sandra Gathmann reports from Brussels, there is a great deal of caution around this development.

Heathrow should be expanded says long-awaited independent report

The Government is set to respond to the report by the end of the year.

London Mayor Boris Johnson told LBC radio that a new runway for Heathrow would have a "catastrophic effect" for Londoners.
