White House says it has not given up on Iraq

The White House says it has not given up on Iraq, despite recent advances by the Islamic State organization and its takeover of the major city of Ramadi.

The Obama administration is defending its Middle East strategy, at at time when former U.S. Defence Secretary Robert Gates told American 24-hour news channel MSNBC that there is no strategy.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters, Washington has not given up, but the U.S. cannot solve the many Middle East problems.

Clinton defends her earnings, and speaks out on email controversy

Hillary Clinton has defended the work the Clinton foundation, whose donations from foreign governments has drawn criticism, at a rare news conference following a campaign event in Iowa.

The presidential hopeful also addressed a deepening controversy over the release of some 55,000 emails sent from a private email address during her tenure as Secretary of State.

White House confirms Venezuela concerns

The White House confirms it has long term concerns about Venezuela's government but refused to comment on a Wall Street Journal report that the U.S. Justice Department on Caracas and drug trafficking.

The newspaper reports that Venezuela's National Assembly President Diosdado Cabello, the country's second most powerful leader, is considered the probable drugs cartel leader by American law enforcement.

U.S. Justice Department officials described the Venezuelan government as a criminal organization, but  White House spokesman Josh Earnest would only confirm long-held concerns:

The American government is defending its military policies in Iraq, despite the fall of the important regional city Ramadi to Islamic State fighters.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest says the campaign against Islamic State was always going to be a long one, and he was confident a combined force of Shias and Sunnis could drive the militants out of the city.

34 million defective airbags recalled in US

A Japanese manufacturer is recalling the airbags from more than 34 million cars in the United States.


It's the largest product recall ever to hit the American automotive industry.

US judge demands release of Clinton emails in batches

A federal judge has rejected the State Department's plan to wait another year to release most of Hillary Clinton's emails- sent from a private email account, while in office.

A US district court judge demanded the some 55,000 emails be released in batches, as a "rolling production"

The State department had earlier announced it did not plan to release the 55,000 emails until January 2016 citing the 'challenging' nature of the correspondence.

Republicans have accused the former Secretary of State of using multiple, secret accounts, compromising national security.

The presidential hopeful hit back, saying she wanted the emails released as soon as possible.

UN chief to visit North Korea Thursday in bid to improve inter-Korea relations

US housing starts up 20% in April

Construction on new U.S. homes sprang up 20.2% in the month of April,
according to data released by the Commerce Department Tuesday.

Housing starts in America jumped to their highest level in nearly 7

7 arrests in connection with London's Hatton Garden Jewel Heist

Detectives at Scotland Yard in the UK have arrested seven people in connection with a raid on safety deposits at Hatton Garden in London.


The heist took place in early April over Britain's Easter Weekend and it's estimated that thieves made off with over 200 million pounds worth of jewels and cash.

Greek Finance minister Varoufakis says deal likely to be signed within the next week

A deal between Greece and its international creditors is likely to be signed within the next week according to the Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis.

The country is soon to run out of cash and needs to agree terms with International creditors in order to release a 7.2 billion euro slice of bailout money it desperately needs.

Clinton's emails won't be released until next year

Some 55,000 emails sent from Hillary Clinton's private account while she was US Secretary of State, will not now be released until January next year.

The presidential hopeful was forced to hand over some 30,000 work emails to the State department, when it emerged she had used a private email account while in office- but she did not release all of them.

UK INFLATION TURNS NEGATIVE

Britain's main inflation rate has turned negative for the first time in decades.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for April came in at minus 0.1%, for the first time since comparable records began in 1989.

It's believed to be the first negative inflation reading in Britain since 1960 and has some economists warning of the dangers of deflation if consumers begin to delay purchases.

The Bank of England predicts the rate will pick up again by the end of the year.

UK inflation turns negatives

UK inflation has turned negative in April for the first time since 1960 according to the latest figures.


This effectively means the cost of living in Britain has fallen for the first time in decades. The UK Chancellor however, believes the fall in inflation is only temporary.
