Start-up Plans to "Democratize" Genetic Screening for Breast Cancer

A Silicon Valley start-up with big-name backers has announced plans to make cost  a virtual non-issue for women who want to get genetic testing for breast and ovarian cancer.

The company plans to charge less than one tenth the price of  tests currently on the market.

White House plays down US warship build-up near Yemen

The ramped-up US Navy presence near Yemen is aimed at helping ensure the "free flow of commerce" and the "freedom of navigation" in the area - the latest line from the White House as instability in the region continues.

Speaking on Tuesday Josh Earnest swerved questions about whether U.S. warships would intercept Iranian arms shipments to Yemeni rebels.

Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of a bishop in the U.S. state of Missouri who was found guilty of failing to report a suspected pedophile priest.

New York Supreme Court grants two chimpanzees personhood

A New York Supreme Court judge has granted two chimpanzees legal personhood.

The ruling allows animal rights activists to represent the chimpanzees
in a hearing to contest their confinement at a university research
centre.

Jury considers death penalty for Boston Bomber

Gazprom head in Greece as possible legal challenge forming from EU

The Head of Russia's energy giant Gazprom, Alexei Miller, is in Greece and may be discussing advancing funds to cash strapped Athens in return for a natural gas pipeline deal.


It comes as the EU charges Gazprom of abusing its position as an energy supplier by overcharging buyers in eastern Europe.

MORSI SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS

An Egyptian court has sentenced former President Mohammed Morsi to 20 years in prison.

The former leader of the Muslim Brotherhood was convicted over the killing of protesters while he was in power in 2012.

Morsi faces several other upcoming trials.

He was ousted by the army in 2013 and authorities have since banned the Muslim Brotherhood.

ITALY DETAINS TWO OVER PEOPLE TRAFFICKING

Italy has charged the captain of a boat that sank off Libya on Sunday killing hundreds of migrants with reckless multiple homicide.

The Tunisian captain and another crew member have also been charged with aiding illegal immigration.
 
This after European Union ministers agreed a ten-point plan to tackle the migrants crisis in the Mediterranean.

EU leaders will discuss the issue further at an emergency summit on Thursday.

Around 1600 migrants are thought to have died attempting to cross the Mediterranean to Europe from Libya this year.

Baltimore police officers involved in arrest of man who died in custody are suspended

The police officers involved in the arrest of a man who died in their custody in Baltimore have been suspended.
Baltimore's deputy police commissioner said an autopsy confirmed that Freddie Gray died due to spinal cord injury.
At the same press conference the city's mayor told reporters she was angry and frustrated.
