Students, employees walk out to support Ferguson protests

Activists called on students and employees across the U.S. to walk out on Monday, in support of protests over the situation in Ferguson, Missouri.

A grand jury's decision last week to not press charges against the white police officer who shot dead an unarmed black teen has sparked widespread demonstrations.

Critic of Obama daughters resigns

In the United States, an aide to a Republican member of Congress has resigned after criticizing the behavior of President Obama's two daughters.


Elizabeth Lauten accused Sasha and Malia Obama of behaving inappropriately during a White House ceremony last week honoring the annual Thanksgiving Day holiday.

Cyber Espionage Ring Works to Game the Stock Market

Security researchers say they have uncovered a cyber espionage ring focused on stealing corporate secrets to game the stock market.
They say the operation has compromised sensitive data about dozens of publicly held companies.

Obama proposes changes to policing in wake of Ferguson

President Obama has proposed 75 million dollars to fund up to 50,000 body cameras for local police officers.

It's part of a $263 million, three-year initiative that will also provide more local police training.

The Russian rouble currency has suffered its biggest fall in a single day since the country's financial collapse in 1998.


Oil prices continue to fall, costing the Russian economy billions and raising fears of a panic among the population.

Two Nigerian state capitals attacked by Boko Haram

UK concerned over ban on Hong Kong visit

UK concerns are growing over clashes between police and demonstrators in Hong Kong, after China barred a committee of MPs from visiting the former colony.


The protest movement is in its second month and those involved are demonstrating against the Chinese government's plans to screen candidates for Hong Kong's leadership elections.


Beijing has accused UK ministers of interfering in internal affairs, but the British Government says the decision to stop a Foreign Affairs Committee from making a planned trop to Hong Kong is counter productive, as our UK Correspondent Natalie Powell reports…

Obama poised for Cabinet, civil rights leaders meeting post-Ferguson

US President Barack Obama is set to meet young civil rights leaders and law enforcement officials in a bid to tackle mistrust in the community, following the recent violence in Ferguson.

In what is being dubbed an effort to boost "cop- community trust" the White House is organizing a series of meetings to look at ways of bringing back trust- following nationwide protests after a white police officer was cleared of killing an unarmed black teenager.

Switzerland rejects immigration quota

Voters in Switzerland have rejected a proposed cut to net immigration after a nation-wide referendum.

76% of people voted no to measures which would have reduced the number of incoming foreigners from 80,000 to 16,000.

Hong Kong experiences worst unrest in pro-democracy protest

Police in Hong Kong have clashed with pro democracy demonstrators in the city, in some of the worst unrest experienced in the two months of protests.


40 people have been arrested and several officers were injured. Police used pepper spray, batons and water hoses to push protests back.


Demonstrators have set up camps over the past two months to protest against the Chinese government's plans to screen candidates for Hong Kong's leadership elections, which will take place win 2017.


Hong Kong's Secretary of State condemned the protest movement for escalating violence.

Moldova partial election results show pro-European parties in lead

Partial election results from Moldova show that pro-European parties have a lead over those favouring closer ties with Russia. 


The election has a wider significance given Russia's annexation of Ukraine's Crimea region in March and fighting between Russian backed militants and government forces in eastern Ukraine which has killed thousands.
