Australia and China sign 'multi-billion dollar' free-trade deal

Australia and China have signed a free trade agreement that officials hope will open up markets

worth billions of dollars to Australian exporters.

The deal was ratified after an address to the country's parliament by China's

Pope Francis to Visit The US in 2015

Pope Francis has confirmed that he will be visiting the United States next year.

Speaking at a Vatican conference on family values, the Pontiff announced that he'll be attending the World Meeting of Families in the east coast city of Philadelphia next September.

Intelligence services try to identify IS militants in beheading video

Intelligence officials are working to identify the 16 IS militants that appeared in a video showing the beheading of 18 Syrian prisoners and US aid worker Abdul-Rahman Kassig.

One of the men in the video is believed to be Maxime Hauchard, a 22-year old French citizen. Another was reported as being a 20-year old Briton, which his father now denies.

Surgeon stricken by Ebola has died at Nebraska hospital

A surgeon who contracted Ebola while working in Sierra Leone has died at a hospital in the US state of Nebraska.

Dr. Martin Salia was transfered to Omaha on Saturday for emergency treatment at the Nebraska Medical Center's biocontainment unit there. The facility had already treated two other Ebola patients in recent weeks.

EU considers action on bird flu outbreak

Bird Flu confirmed at UK farm

At least one confirmed case of bird flu has been recorded at a duck breeding farm in the UK.

Britain's Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said the risk of the virus to public health is very low.

This is the first case of bird flu in the UK since 2008 as our UK Correspondent Natalie Powell reports….

US welcomes re-opening of Temple Mount

The Obama administration is welcoming the decision by Israel to end the age restrictions at the Temple Mount.

In Jerusalem, the Temple Mount is thought to be one of the holiest places in the world to Jews, Christians and Muslims, but access has been limited to this religious site to adults over 35.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has been meeting with officials across the region and U.S. State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki says Washington welcomes the deal reached to re-open the Temple Mount.

Key vote held on Keystone XL pipeline

The U.S. House of Representatives has voted in favor of constructing the Keystone XL pipeline, which would carry crude oil from Canada to American refineries.

Environmentalists oppose the Keystone XL pipeline, and some First Nations / Native American groups do not want the pipeline to cross their reservations, while the energy sector says it will create thousands of new jobs and keep energy prices low.

The U.S. State Department would only say that its review of the proposed pipeline and its impact is ongoing, referring any further questions to the White House.
