US LAUNCHES AIR STRIKES INSIDE SYRIA WITH ARAB BACKING

The US and Arab allies have launched the first air strikes on Islamic State militants inside Syria.

The Pentagon says fighter and bomber jets and Tomohawk missiles have been used to target IS positions.

It's reported that many of the strikes have been around Raqqa province, which has been an IS stronghold in eastern Syria since 2013.

Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE are said to be involved alongside the US.

Middle East analyst Meir Javedanfar says the participation of Arab nations is significant.

US Secret Service launches full review of WH security breach

The US Secret Service is launching a full review of Friday night's security breach at the White House- that's according to presidential spokesperson Josh Earnest.

He said President Obama was 'obviously' concerned that an Iraq war verteran had simply jumped over the fence, run across the White House lawn and entered the building before he was caught.

Foot patrols have been beefed up around the White House, but Josh Earnest says the secret service has the president's full confidence, as it probes the incident.

Western training of Peshmerga reportedly underway

Western militaries are reportedly engaged in an "urgent" effort to train Kurdish fighters to combat Islamic State militants.

Kurdish forces, known as Peshmerga, are being trained in the use of high-tech weapons and tactics.

NASA Mars Satellite 'Maven' Enters Orbit

Thai police expand tests to find UK tourists' killers

Ceasefire in Ukraine remains unstable

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is continuing to defend a peace plan agreed Saturday despite more reported deaths of government troops.
