The S&P 500 has hit a record high in New York after official figures showed US inflation fell slightly to an annual rate of three point four per cent in July.
The Consumer Price Index data matched market expectations, and core inflation — which strips out food and energy — came in at two point five per cent, slightly below forecasts.
Market pricing tools now suggest a roughly sixty-two per cent chance the Federal Reserve will leave interest rates unchanged at its next meeting in September.
