The S&P 500 and Dow Jones have hit fresh all-time intraday record highs on Tuesday, fuelled by hopes of an imminent deal between the United States and Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said there was a chance an agreement could come within hours, sending oil prices sharply lower, with Brent crude falling from around eighty-four dollars a barrel to roughly seventy dollars.
Strong quarterly earnings from Caterpillar and Palantir Technologies have also boosted sentiment on Wall Street.
