Congolese health authorities have quarantined a passenger boat carrying nearly two hundred people roughly 40 miles (65 kilometres) upstream from Kinshasa after five people on board — including a three-year-old child and a newborn — died with Ebola-like symptoms, with World Health Organization teams boarding to set up a mobile testing laboratory.
The quarantine comes as the DRC's Ebola response is being undermined by a walkout of frontline health workers in Ituri province, who say they have not been paid since the outbreak was declared in May.
The government says the delays were caused by fraudulent entries discovered in the payroll system, and that payments are now being processed.
