Iran's Foreign Ministry has denied that any negotiations with the United States are taking place, directly contradicting US President Donald Trump's claim on Sunday that talks with Tehran would begin on Monday.
President Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that a deal was imminent and that Saudi Arabia believed an agreement was close — but Iran says its only discussions are with Oman over a temporary shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz.
The conflicting accounts mark the latest in a series of contradictory statements from Washington and Tehran since a ceasefire and memorandum of understanding collapsed at the start of July.
