Canada on Tuesday announced retaliatory tariffs on more than seven hundred American products, doubling duties on steel and aluminium to fifty per cent and imposing new levies on electronics, dairy and clothing.
The move came after trade talks collapsed late on Friday, prompting Washington to impose fifty per cent tariffs on roughly twenty billion dollars' worth of Canadian goods.
US President Donald Trump has responded with a barrage of personal attacks on Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and has floated renaming Lake Ontario.
