Bangladeshi nationals have been killed in a fire at a residential hotel in the Indian city of Kolkata, as relations between Delhi and Dhaka remain deeply strained.
A key source of tension is the presence in India of ousted former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled there in 2024 and has since been sentenced to death by a Bangladeshi tribunal.
Earlier this month, she held a press conference in the Indian capital — a move Dhaka condemned as an affront to Bangladesh's sovereignty.
