A twenty-five per cent tariff on Brazilian goods has taken effect in the United States, with Washington accusing Brazil of unfair trade practices against American businesses.
The duty covers more than eleven billion dollars' worth of Brazilian exports, though key commodities including coffee, beef and orange juice have been exempted.
Brazil's Vice President Geraldo Alckmin has signalled BrasÃlia will seek to resolve the dispute through negotiation rather than retaliation.
