US President Donald Trump has vowed that Iran will get a "beating," as the US Treasury Department sanctioned eight companies running a shadow fleet of vessels transporting Iranian oil.
Saudi Defence Minister Khalid bin Salman has met US Vice President JD Vance in Washington, less than a day after the two countries conducted joint military operations against Iran-linked targets in Iraq.
The conflict is increasingly threatening to pull neighbouring countries into the fighting.
