US President Donald Trump is currently en route to Ankara for the NATO summit, having signalled he is bringing a "gift" for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan widely understood to relate to lifting the ban on F-35 fighter jet sales to Turkey.
The two-day gathering has opened with what is being described as the alliance's most comprehensive defence industry forum to date, as allies face mounting pressure from Washington to convert higher military spending into real capability.
